  1. English Club Party

September 30, 2005 by Eddie Gonzalez

    English Club Party

I put a couple of pictures of the English Club party. It was really fun. I even won a prize for eating a large ice cream bar the fastest. After the party with food we went to a kareoke bar were I think I impressed the girls with my knowledge of J-pop songs… After that we went to this really nice bar next to the JR station. It was a bit on the expensive side but it was very clean. The bathroom was out of this world! There was even an aquarium in it! I’ll put pictures of that when I get some e-mails from the people with the good cameras.

Tomorrow we are spending the night at a collection of temples that reside in Koya-san. I’m looking forward to what I can learn there, but not looking forward to mosquito bites.

  2. Manga

September 29, 2005 by Eddie Gonzalez

A couple of days ago Haruna recommended that I check out “One Piece” a manga about Pirates. She said it had pretty easy Japanese. I was unable to read the first page without a dictionary though…

Manga is REALLY cheap in Japan! Like $3.50 each, compared to $10 or $15 in the U.S.

  3. Seiza

September 26, 2005 by Eddie Gonzalez

Today I went to a tea ceremony performed by a club at Konan University. I sat in Seiza the entire time because I didn’t wan’t to give up before the Computer Engineer. An hour of that isn’t healthy. I was unable to move my entire leg after it was time to go. It was pretty embarrasing, but also really funny.

I have to find a club to attend before it’s too late. I’m not sure what club to join. I’m thinking the Igo Shougi club… but I’d rather be in a DDR club. Or at least a DDR machine somewhere… I haven’t been able to find one yet.

  4. iBook G4

September 24, 2005 by Eddie Gonzalez

My Sharp MM20′s HD died again. So I went to the electronics store in Sannomea and bought the cheapest non-sharp laptop I could find. An iBook G4.

The thought of how much time and money I’ve poured into that MM20 makes me sad. It’s so damn cool too :(

  5. Final Fantasy

September 23, 2005 by Eddie Gonzalez

I played Final Fantasy I on a DoCo Mo cell phone today. It was awesome.

  6. Counting money

September 18, 2005 by Eddie Gonzalez

Japanese cashiers count bills in a really cool way that I can’t figure out how to do yet. I can’t even explain it properly… I’ll have to record someone doing it.

    Someone else who has noticed.

  7. Flash cards

September 18, 2005 by Eddie Gonzalez

I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve ever made flash cards. Hopefully they’ll work out for me.

  8. New Pictures

September 18, 2005 by Eddie Gonzalez

I uploaded the pictures that were on my Treo to the gallery. They are all small and pretty funny but it’s better than nothing.

I’ve wanted to take so many pictures especially of funny engrish things but I feel bad. I’ll take some time to post the pictures on my cell phone next week.

On the school side of things, the Japanese class is about as intensive as the summer intensive class I took two summers ago. I really wasn’t expecting that. The quizes they give are really hard because they give you the English definition and ask you to give the Japanese word. So even though I’ve already done all the grammar that’s going to be taught in this class, I’m pretty behind on the vocabulary and Kanji. I was thinking about asking to be put in the highest class (E) but I feel comfortable in class D. The quizes are a little harder than I’m used too but it’s good practice for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test I’ll be taking.

Other than Japanese, I’m going to take the Japanese Art History and Japanese Businesss classes because they are more interesting than the Japanese Linguistics and Japanese Society and Law classes. (woo I said Japanese 5 times in one sentence…)

The DVD of Advent Children was sold out practically before it was released. And I was convinced to buy a PSP so I could watch the UMD version. I’m not really satisfied with it though. I think I’ll be selling it in a few months if no really good games come out. Lumines is fun enough for now.

Classes for normal students start tomorrow at Konan, so I hope I’ll be able to make even more friends. Wish me luck on the Kanji quiz tomorrow.

  9. Empitsu

In Japan the lead in pencils can go down as far as 0.18mm! There are also pens that small.

  10. PSP

September 14, 2005 by Eddie Gonzalez

It’s amazing. I can use my PSP to write blog entries.
